The Silver Room

Where an image learns to exist

Medium
Self-portraiture and still life, analog, silver gelatin
Location
Home darkroom, Tehran
Year
2017

A tribute to the room where Hooman's work began: his father's darkroom. This series was shot and printed entirely by hand in that same room, photographing the tools of the process itself (trays, tongs, the red safelight, a print half-emerged from the developer bath) alongside quiet self-portraits taken mid-process, chemical-stained hands included.

It's less a series about photographs than about the moment before a photograph is finished: the interval where an image is neither hidden nor yet real.
