The Bread and the Bones

What hands remember

Medium
Black-and-white and color film, close-up and macro

Named for the bread dough Hooman built with as a four-year-old, this series photographs hands and raw material together (dough, wet clay, wax, wet concrete) at the exact point of being shaped. Craftsmen, laborers, and Hooman's own father appear throughout, hands mid-motion, material caught between formless and formed.

It's a quiet argument that the instinct to build is inherited long before it's taught, passed hand to hand, material to material, well before anyone calls it art.
